Holiday Idea

Gateway to the Arctic, Norway’s northernmost hub is a lively city surrounded by mountains, fjords and islands. Fishermen’s tales have shaped popular culture in this country which sings of the sea, and every island and islet has a story to tell. Enjoy three nights in a centrally located hotel, spending days enjoying some of the key attractions in the city, before travelling east to the magnificent Lyngen peninsula to relax at the beautiful boutique Lyngen Experience Lodge. Here, take part in an excursion to the Blue Lake and a stroll underneath the glow of the midnight sun.

Day 1 | Arrive in Tromsø

Transfer to the Clarion Hotel Aurora, for the next three nights. Tromsø may be well inside the Arctic Circle in the far north of Norway, but it’s a surprisingly lively place. The setting is glorious, on an island surrounded by mountains, and the city boasts several "world’s most northerly” descriptions – botanic gardens, cathedral, university, brewery... and traffic lights!

Day 2 | Arctic-Alpine Botanic Garden & Midnight Sun Concert

After breakfast, travel by bus to the Arctic-Alpine Botanic Garden, the world's northernmost botanic garden. The short but intense northern summer means there are new busy beauties blossoming every week. Return to Tromsø and perhaps take some time to visit the Polar Museum in the afternoon. After dinner, relax and take a short stroll to the Arctic Cathedral for the 30 minute Midnight Sun concert.

Day 3 | Fjord Cruise

After breakfast, go on a three hour fjord cruise. Learn about the Arctic marine life as you sail on a comfortable catamaran spotting wildlife in their natural habitat. The day’s fresh catch is served for lunch. In the afternoon, a historical walking tour of the city starts from the Tourist Information Centre that you may wish to join. Return to the Clarion Hotel Aurora for dinner in the evening.

Day 4 | Cable Car & Lyngen Alps

After breakfast take a bus and cable car up to the mountain ledge Storsteinen for a wonderful view of the city. Enjoy a traditional Norwegian waffle and a drink at restaurant Fjellstua at the very top. Make your way back to the city in the afternoon. You will be transferred to Lyngen Experience Lodge for a three night stay. Relax and perhaps use the sauna and Jacuzzi, free or guest to use between 3pm and 7pm. In the evening, enjoy a three course dinner overlooking the beautiful Ulsfjord.

Day 5 | Lake Blåvatnet

Visit beautiful Blåvatnet, an intense blue coloured lake that stands in stark contrast to the steep mountains in the background. Getting there is an easy hike that suits all abilities. After a short drive of 25 minutes there is a walk of 1-1.5 hours. Most of the walk is in relatively gentle and flat terrain. The last stretch involves climbing over larger stones. There is hot food, tea, coffee and water served on the trip.

Day 6 | Midnight Sun Hike

Today can be spent at leisure at the lodge or you may wish to book another excursion. Enjoy dinner in the evening and later go on a Midnight Sun hike. Your guide will take you on a stroll from the lodge under the glow of the sun. Enjoy the most wonderful views as you relax around an open fire listening to the sound of the sea.
