Planning a stopover in Iceland, or just have a few days to spare? This itinerary has been designed for those who want to make the most of a short trip to the land of fire and ice. Experience the highlights in the south including the trio of sights along the Golden Circle route and take time to relax in the geothermal waters of both the Secret Lagoon and world-famous Blue Lagoon.
Itinerary
Day 1 | Arrive in Iceland
Arrive at Keflavík Aiport where you will collect your hire car. Begin your self drive adventure along the southern coast of the Reykjanes Peninsula to the charming village of Hveragerdi, situated in Iceland's geothermal area. Head to the famous Blue Lagoon to bath in the mineral-rich waters.
Day 2 | Glaciers & Black Sands
After breakfast, head along the scenic South Shore route to the area near the infamous Eyjafjallajokull volcano which erupted in 2010. Visit the Lava Centre to learn about the powerful volcanic and tectonic forces that shaped Iceland's landscape. Drive to the Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls and Myrdalsjokull glacier and explore the seafront village of Vik with its rugged cliffs and black sand beaches.
Day 3 | Golden Circle
Today you'll discover Iceland's famous Golden Circle. Visit Gullfoss, considered by many to be Iceland’s most beautiful waterfall and the active geothermal area of Geysir with its bubbling hot springs. Explore Thingvellir National Park and take a break to unwind at one of the hot spring pools.
Day 4 | Departure Day
Enjoy your final breakfast in Iceland, and some free time before heading to the airport to catch your flight home.
